Different Types of Garden Sheds

Garden sheds offer the perfect outdoor storage option. You can keep tools, lawn care items, gardening items, and more out there. These are things that won't have to clutter up your house or your garage any more. There are three different types of garden sheds, each with their own advantages.

Plastic sheds.

A slightly more modern option in today's market are plastic sheds. Over the years plastic sheds have gone a long way to make advancements. They no longer fade or become brittle in the sun. They are durable and stand against the weather. They will not rot, crack, or draw insects. They are also fire resistant. Additionally you can purchase plastic sheds for less money than other garden sheds.

However, there are a few disadvantages to the plastic shed. For many the look of the plastic shed is one that they don't want. This look can only get worse as dirt clings to the sides. It requires that you either have an eye sore or you work to keep the sides of your plastic shed clean.

Metal sheds.

For a long time the popular choice was the metal shed. These are usually made from iron, steel, or aluminum. The metal sheets are pieced together to form the box. These sheds are strong, durable, and often stand the test of time. They are good at resisting the whether, won't rot, don't attract insects, and are fire resistant.

Metal sheds rust, especially the less expensive kinds. Over time they can wear through. While normally weather resistant, extreme weather conditions can cause them to be dented. They are also less attractive.

Wooden sheds.

Much older than either the plastic shed or the metal shed is the wooden sheds. Wooden sheds have been used for out door storage for a long time and for garden sheds for as long as there have been gardens and items from the gardens that needed storage space. These are the most attractive of all sheds because they have a natural look and feel about them.

While wooden sheds are the most attractive, they offer some issues over plastic and metal varieties. Wooden sheds rot, draw insects, and require more care than other shed types. You need to make sure that you are taking care of it on a regular basis to avoid these issues as well as damage caused by rain. There are treatments that can be painted on the wood to help protect it, but this will be an on going expense. It is also possible to find woods that are more resistant to damage, but they will cost more. Additionally wooden sheds or wooden shed kits of all types are likely to cost more than other shed types.

Choosing the perfect shed is going to be a matter of you choosing what is most important to you. Plastic and metal garden sheds offer some distinct advantages, but both come with their own disadvantages. Wooden sheds have more disadvantages and require more care, but offer a nicer look and often a nicer feel. In the end, it will be about what meets your needs and desires.
